Massage Therapy
Have you ever bumped your leg against the coffee table or had your calf cramp during the night?... What was the first thing you did? If you are like most people you began to rub your leg. It is hard to argue that massage has not been around for a very long time because it seems to be almost instinctual. Massage has certainly been around all throughout recorded history and it has many health benefits. Many of its benefits are well-known, it improves circulation, decreases pain and speeds healing from injury. However, did you know that touch is very important for infants and that the lack of touch reduces their weight and overall health. There have also been studies showing that massage may decrease anxiety and depression. All of these studies help to explain why massage isn’t just important for our physical health but also for our mental well-being.
We feel at Balance Acupuncture that everyone should get a massage at least 3-4 times per year. Often, we may have areas of tightness that we are not aware of. A good massage will smooth out all of these tight areas and leave you refreshed and relaxed. If you are active, you may want to get a massage even more frequently because the activity can fatigue the muscles. Massage will reinvigorate fatigued muscles and allow you to maintain a more active schedule free from injury.
