FAQs

Do you take insurance?

Yes, we are on the provider panels for several major insurance companies; Regence, HMA, Premera, Lifewise, United Heathcare, Aetna and Ambetter. We are not in-network with Humana, Cigna or Kaiser Permanente, with those plans we can only bill your insurance if the plan allows for out-of-network benefits. We also do not accept medicare or Washington State L&I claims. For medicare, many secondary plans will cover acupuncture. If you have questions about whether or not your insurance covers acupuncture, please contact us.

If I just want to come in for FSM or an herbal consultation, do I have to get acupuncture?

No, your are welcome to get FSM or do an herbal consultation without getting acupuncture. Both forms of treatment are effective on their own. Please note though, that neither are covered by insurance, so you will have to pay out-of-pocket for those treatments.

As a new patient, is there anything I need to do to prepare for my first visit?

If you plan to bill your insurance for acupuncture, please bring your insurance card. Also, you want to make sure that you don’t come to acupuncture on an empty stomach. It is also helpful, if you wear loose clothing that allows us to roll the sleeves up to the elbow and pant legs up to the knee. Below the elbow and below the knee are the areas with the most commonly used acupuncture points.

If you are coming in for FSM, please drink 2 liters or 8 cups of water that day before coming in.

How often should I get acupuncture?

For more severe pain, we will often treat twice a week, in most cases once a week for acupuncture treatments is sufficient.

How many treatments does it take for acupuncture to work?

How long it takes acupuncture to work depends mainly on two things, the severity of the injury and time (how long have you had the problem). The more severe and the longer the period of time, the longer it will take to resolve. Most conditions can see significant change in 8 treatments. It is pretty common to see pain-related conditions resolve in 8-16 treatments depending on the severity.

Does acupuncture hurt? What does it feel like?

Acupuncture needles are very fine, not much wider than a hair. So the poke that you feel when the needle is inserted is mild, sometimes people don’t feel it at all. The most common sensations that people will feel when receiving acupuncture are pressure, a flowing sensation, or hot and cold sensations. In general, acupuncture should never be painful or uncomfortable. To the contrary, most people report it to be very relaxing.
